SMART (Saint Mary Abbots Rehabilitation and Training) aims to promote mental health through purposeful activity. We offer a range of supported work and training opportunities in a relaxed and friendly environment. This can help people to build both practical and personal skills and gain experience and confidence that may lead on to further employment.
SMART provides a supportive environment that gives members the opportunity to benefit from joining a social network, to rediscover and develop talents and skills and for some to move towards more independent living.
Projects
Café – SMART’s Café is open to the public from 10am-4pm Monday to Friday.
SMART Members can volunteer on the Café Counter, volunteer to help in the kitchen, learn food and hygiene skills or be employed by SMART to work as a chef.
IT – Members can gain computer skills through our in-house and accredited courses. The courses start at a basic level and students can progress on to City & Guilds qualifications in office and internet skills and desk top publishing. There are also sessions on job searching and CV writing in the IT project.
Gardening - This drop-in session takes place twice a week on Wednesdays and Fridays. SMART members participate in a wide range of garden based activities such as potting plants, watering, tending flowers, pulling weeds etc. SMART caters for people of all abilities and can accommodate anyone with physical difficulties.
